ABOUT THE REGIONAL SHOW The submission process is identical to last year - online through Google Forms. Below you'll find everything you need to know and the link to pay your fee. As we learned last year, the process is easier if you use a GMAIL account. You'll even find directions below for opening a gmail account if you need to. Although the submissions open officially June 1, the link is "live" now and you can go ahead and pay your fee. I'll email the Google Form to you after you pay your fee. NEW this year: we have our usual categories of 2D, 3D, photography and fiber. This year we've added Functional Pottery back in as a category. We have traditionally had functional pottery as a category, largely due to the influence of Bobbie Austin who lobbied many years ago that functional pottery should be a separate category from 3D. Recently, our board voted unanimously to put functional pottery back in, in part to honor Bobbie. PLEASE SHARE this email with other artists!! This same information can also be found on our website: https://www.monroewaltonarts.org/call-for-entries.html Hope to see you and your fabulous art soon! Hope ![]()
hello members -
I hope this finds you all well. Just a few updates ... IMPACT REPORT I'm so proud to include our 2020 Impact Report. Our president, Laura Templeton, used her writing and design skills to pull this together for us. It gives you a view of our year, our accomplishments and challenges we faced. I hope you'll open it and spend a few moments celebrating our successes and victories through a tough year. Feel free to share this awesome report with others - we're super proud! Thank you, Laura! If you can't download it to take a look, drop by the center and I'll print one out for you. It is linked above. GARDEN TOUR - MAY 15!! We're hosting a fund-raising GARDEN TOUR on Saturday, May 15 from 10 am - 4 pm and there are LOTS of ways you can help. Ten gardens total; 7 homes and 3 specialty gardens! Read ALL about it - https://www.monroewaltonarts.org/garden-tour-information.html Volunteers needed:
<<Volunteers and painters - your shift will last three hours from either 10 am - 1 pm OR 1 pm - 4 pm. As a THANK YOU to all our volunteers and painters -- you will get a FREE TICKET to the Tour to view the gardens during your "off" hours.>> PAINTERS We are hoping to have a nice blend of beautiful gardens and art (of course), so we'd like to have plein aire (outdoor) painters situated in many of the gardens. These painters would simply paint the lovely garden as a demonstration while the Tour is happening. You might interact some and answer questions. This is a great way to promote yourself as a painter and will be a lot of fun. The painting belongs to you at the end of the day for you to keep or sell. GARDEN GREETERS We'd like each home to have greeters to help guide people along and ensure the tour goes smoothly. GARDEN TALKS Are you a gardener? Could you provide a demonstration of a topic like container gardening or herb, flower, or vegetable gardening? Starting plants from seed? Anything?!? Respond to this email if you'd like more information. NEW/UPDATED GIFT SHOP We had a big sale out of the Members' Show and so we were able to use "our" part to make huge improvements in the gift shop -- almost all the shelving has been replaced with crisp, white new shelves -- LOOKS FABULOUS!! Our artists' items just sparkle against the new shelves - you should come take a look! We only had to buy the materials, as volunteers built the shelves, saving us well over $1000. Many thanks to Tom Nehmer and Rebecca and Chris Braswell. The plans were provided by Babs Kall. I think you'll be pleased. We are always looking for ways to improve around here. We have LOTS and lots of new works in the shop - drop by for the perfect gift, art, home decor, jewelry and more!! A QUICK COMPARISON Just to compare - my first month here was Feb 2017 - I started right around Valentine's Day. We sold four items that month. We sold 163 of our local artists' works in February 2021. I always enjoy that look back on my anniversary to see how far we've come ... and it just keeps getting better!! REGIONAL JURIED SHOW The next show you might be interested in entering is the Regional Show in August. Online submissions start in June. https://www.monroewaltonarts.org/call-for-entries.html CLASSES

We have a class proposal worksheet for you to fill out. This helps you walk through exactly what you need (and we need) to start teaching here - and includes our policies. WORKSHEET: https://forms.gle/jgU2hN29n95VWPpL7 We also have an interview/mock class process for new teachers - you must demonstrate your project/work to our education chair. By the way, if you have art in the Regional Show, the pick up days are Friday and Saturday, October 23-24 from 11 - 5. A few "insider" updates... I have these members signed up so far to have a booth at the shop:
If your name is not on this list and you've told me you would like to be in the shop, please remind me. :-) We still have room for a few more artists/artisans so please contact me ASAP if you want space. Details: 1 -- If you are NOT already in our gift shop, you will have to be juried into the Christmas shop. We are looking for quality of course, but also works that are unique and not in direct competition with what we already have. Send me photos and I will run your submissions by our gallery committee and will let you know. 2 -- Set up is on these days
Show opens Thursday Nov 5 3 -- You will need to provide a small table, like a card table and a white tablecloth. It's also nice if you have some fun & festive decor. Make your table attractive. Bring your own display items to make things easily accessible (displays for earrings for example etc). 4 -- The majority of items you offer should be in the range of $35 or less. Keep in mind that our average selling price is $15-20. 5 -- REFRESH your items every 2-3 weeks. We have repeat shoppers. In November you may want to offer more fall/Thanksgiving themed items. Remove those items by December 1 and replace with Christmas decor and gifts etc. 6 -- TIP: If you can be set up by Fall Fest on October 31, we should be busy and have lots of shoppers that day. You may even want to offer some specials for that day only. 7 -- EVERYTHING must be tagged and priced. Contact me if you don't know how to do this. 8 -- The Christmas Shop technically closes on 12/24. If you want to run an after-Christmas sale, you are welcome to do that. All items must be removed by January 6. 9 -- We are open until 8pm (if the city does this again) for candlelight shopping on these Thursdays: 11/8, 11/12, 11/19, 12/3, 12/10, 12/17. Volunteers are appreciated. 10 -- PLEASE PUBLICIZE the shop to your friends and family via social media. Invite them and bring them here to shop! 11 -- FESTIVE OPEN HOUSE with hot cider and refreshments: Thursday, Nov 12 from 5 - 8 pm. Help needed - please - to bring snacks and hosts/hostess. 12 -- Christmas Parade, I assume, will be held 12/3 unless it is canceled because of the virus. This is a busy night for us and a good night to have your items freshened up!! We usually host a members' pot-luck that night, too -- will make an announcement about that later. 13 -- The usual 75/25 split applies. Please note that of our 25%, we only net about 8-9% after we take care of supplies, processing fees etc. FALL FEST OCTOBER 31 We will have a pottery workshop and pop-up shops. I have these artists listed for a pop-up shop. Washington Street will be closed so there is plenty of room for booths. Bring your own tables and tents (if you have one) and chairs. We have weathered what I hope is the worst of 2020 and remain open to serve you and our community through offering classes, an inspiring new Show and everyone's favorite gift shop! Comments I've heard just today: "It's so calm and peaceful here. This is a really nice break from the world." "This is our first visit to Monroe and this place is amazing! We'll be back!" I hear comments like those almost daily. It's great fun to take someone on their first tour of this place and watch their eyes just about pop out of their heads. I know we take this place for granted, but having a community art center offering a shop, classes, gallery shows and events of our caliber is a rare and precious thing. Have you seen the new show? It's really amazing; my favorite one so far, I think. 64 artists are showcased through over 130 works selected by a panel of jurists. It truly is the best of the best. COMING UP …
