ACRYLIC PAINTING
with NancyJeanette
Special Deal for Beginners:
Bring a snack or lunch if you’d like — and your creativity!
Recommended Supply List for Acrylics classes
Buy your supplies wherever you like. I have found the prices at Dick Blick (www.dickblick.com) to be better or comparable to local store. They ship very quickly and offer good prices for quality supplies. Bring what you have if you can't find everything on the list!
Paint:
HEAVY BODY ACRYLICS. (No Liquitex Basics or Golden OPEN) The most economical paint overall are the premium brands Liquitex Heavy Body, Utretcht, Heavy Body and Golden Heavy Body because they have the strongest pigment, so you can use less to get great color. If you have trouble finding a specific color, I often have a few extras I can sell you directly.
These are the best 7 colors to start with (about $90):
• Titanium White,
• Paynes Gray (or Ivory Black),
• Cadmium Yellow Light,
• Alizarin Crimson,
• Cerulean Blue ,
• Dioxine Purple ,
• Cadmium Orange
Brushes:
One large and one small. Recommended sizes 12 and 8 or 6 and 10 of a synthetic bristle or hog bristle. Either Flat, Filbert or Bright will work well. The more expensive the brush, the longer it will hold a shape without fraying. The brushes should have long handles and bristles a bit stiff so they bounce or “spring” back upright when wet with paint.
If you have brushes you like, you are all set.
If you need new brushes, these are good: Silver Brush Grand Prix (https://www.dickblick.com/products/silver-brush-grand-prixsuper-brushes/) Princeton Catylist Polytip Bristle (https://www.dickblick.com/products/princetoncatalyst-polytip-bristle-brushes/) I also have a few high quality Rosemary brushes in 6, 8, 10 and 12 flat shape which I can sell directly for about $18 each if you let me know to bring them.
Palette Knife:
The most useful shape is called Trowel. It has a triangle shape and a bend down from the handle. I like the smaller sizes of trowel, but any kind will do; This is the one I like best. Blick Comfort Medium Trowel (https://www.dickblick.com/items/blick-comfort-grippalette-knife-78-x-2-34-style-30/))
Canvas or Canvas Boards: You will need one or two per class. The heavier the canvas, the better the quality, but any brand will do.
