The Art of the Matter (creative writing)
with award-winning author, Carole Townsend Saturday, December 2 from 11am - 2pm Fee:
Ages 16 to adult Appropriate for all skill levels For writers/aspiring writers who love the written word and want to learn more about writing techniques. This fun, engaging class covers various writing techniques to keep readers engaged, such as sentence structure, flow, “the dance” (using artful, thoughtful sentence structure, word play, alliteration, etc. to say what you have to say, only better!). This class also examines several other techniques that set the tone for a story, hook the reader, and foreshadow events to come later in the story. This class is a true Creative Writing course, taught by award-winning author Carole Townsend. Townsend has published six books; she is also a newspaper journalist and freelance writer. Students: please bring a notebook, pen, and brown bag lunch! |

Book signing with Barbara Barth Join us on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 2 to 4 PM for author Barbara Barth’s fundraiser book signing of her newly released holiday novella “Christmas With Ginger”. 100% of the sales price will be donated to MWCA. Light refreshments will be served. This book is a sweet read set in a small Georgia town where a Chihuahua rescued from Animal Control brings back the magic of Christmas and new beginnings. |
Walton Writers hosts three on-going events here at MWCA, especially geared toward writers -- from budding writers to published authors. These meetings are free and open to the public. Joining Walton Writers Facebook group is recommended to help you stay up-to-date on their meetings and workshops.
Hosted by our Literary Arts Chair, Walton Writers founder and published author Barbara Barth. SUNDAY WRITE-IN: Every Sunday from 1:30 - 4:30 pm. This FREE Creative Gathering is open to anyone interested in writing. Feel free to drop in Sundays anytime between 1:30 - 4:30 to write in a supportive environment or chat with others about writing - hosted by writer, Barbara Barth. Bring a snack and drink if you'd like! FIRST THURSDAY WALTON WRITERS MEETING: Meetings hosted through ZOOM online. Meets every first Thursday (of most months) from 6 - 8 pm. Topics and speakers vary from month-to-month. In November and December they will have a different meeting schedule due to city of Monroe events on the usual meeting nights. Southern Sisters in Crime Writers Group meets the last Sunday of every month (except November-December) at 3:00 They are members of the National Sisters in Crime. You do not have to be a mystery writer to join, just enjoy the genre. SCRIBBLERS Christian Writers Club Scribblers Christian Writers Club (www.scribblersweb.com) meets the third Friday of each month at 11:30am. To be a regular participant, you must be a Scribblers Member, but you may visit one time to see if the group is a good fit for you.
