Hello MWCA friends!
Once a month (or so), I send out this "insider info" to our members. Thank you for your support of local art! Here's your MAY MEMO. IN THE GALLERY Our Middle School Student Art Show AND Congressional Art Competition are both currently in display in our gallery. The Congressional Show is up through May 12; the Middle School Student Art Show is up through May 19 when we will hold the Reception from 6 - 7:30. Come see these great shows -- full of wondrous local student talent. UPCOMING SHOWS The Tiny Art Show & Sale is right around the corner!! Our annual Regional Juried Show coming up this fall. All the details and guidelines are on our website, including the jurists and judge for the Regional Show. Thanks to our member, Babs Kall, who has contacts throughout the art community in Athens, we have some fabulous artists with impressive credentials as jurists. Learn more here about both shows: https://www.monroewaltonarts.org/call-for-entries.html You can download and print the guidelines for both shows there, or drop by the center for copies. NATURE MEETS ART GARDEN TOUR on May 14 Don't miss!! Tickets are on sale now for $30! We have seven private home gardens (all new this year!) and two very cool public gardens on this year's tour. Drop by the Center or call 770-207-8937 to buy your tickets. Please note that if you buy over the phone, you'll still have to drop by the center at your convenience to pick up your Map and Garden Tour wristband/ticket. More info: https://www.monroewaltonarts.org/garden-tour-information.html We'll open a little early on Saturday - 9:45 - if you want to drop by and buy or pick up your tickets then. UPCOMING EVENTS AND WORKSHOPS
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Would you like to meet new people and get involved with your local non-profit art center? Email our Volunteer Chair, Lori Volk for more information! [email protected] POP UP ARTISTS' MARKET -- ART FESTIVAL We have TWO main opportunities for artists/artisans/makers to sell directly to the public via a POP UP SHOP: Monroe Blooms and Fall Fest Our next really big event for market artists is ... MONROE BLOOMS/Saturday Soiree -- June 18 POP UP SHOPS DURING Blooms if you'd like to have a pop up shop, it will run the way we always do things - you can set up a table and/or tent outside. First come, first served - you can be in the grassy areas but don't block sidewalks. I don't assign spots. You will take care of your own customers (taking payments) and settle up with us at the end of the day for 10%. NO RENTAL FEE. I recently had a meeting with Leigh Ann from the city who informed me that Monroe Blooms will be much more geared to an adult shopping day - focused on flowers of course and ART. Did you see that - ART! Almost kinda like an ART FESTIVAL - boy, does this excite me!! :-) Please RSVP by responding to this email. If you are already in our Gift Shop, you will be approved to have a Pop Up Shop during Blooms. If you are a member but NOT already in the shop, your work will have to be juried into Blooms. Email photos of sample works by responding to this email. The city will have booths on Court Street and maybe other places but ours are FREE - with only a 10% commission paid to us on what you sell. You won't find a better deal anywhere. If you'd like to run a fun workshop - I recommend a price point of $15 - 25, please let me know by June 1 so I can get the word out. I need a description and photo of the project. I like to have 2 - 4 workshops on our Soiree days. 2021 IMPACT REPORT Why support MWCA? What do we do? What are our goals and accomplishments? I think you'll be impressed with our eight-page summary of 2021 produced by our president, Laura Templeton. It's attractive, easy-to-read and very compelling! You can view it online here:https://midd.me/TZSc and print it out, if you like. Or drop by the Center for a copy. Thanks again for your support - donations, attending our events and classes, shopping with us, volunteering, participating in our shows, being our ambassador in the community and spreading the word for us! EASY way to help -- "like" and share our social media posts! This helps more than you know! Art for all!! See you soon! Hope
